What Media Bias? Part 159

by Mark Noonan on September 6th, 2009 at 12:12am | 5 Comments
If George Bush had hired, say, a member of the John Birch Society to advise him, it would have been a major news story - Obama hires a hate-filled, self-described kook of a commie…and what do we get?

From a Nexis search a few moments ago: (Ed. Note: time stamped from September 4th)

Total words about the Van Jones controversy in the New York Times: 0.
Total words about the Van Jones controversy in the Washington Post: 0.
Total words about the Van Jones controversy on NBC Nightly News: 0.
Total words about the Van Jones controversy on ABC World News: 0.
Total words about the Van Jones controversy on CBS Evening News: 0.

If you were to receive all your news from any one of these outlets, or even all of them together, and you heard about some sort of controversy involving President Obama’s Special Adviser for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, your response would be, “Huh?” If you heard that that adviser, Van Jones, had apologized for a number of remarks and positions in the recent past, your response would be, “What?” And if you were in the Obama White House monitoring the Jones situation, you would be hoping that the news organizations listed above continue to hold the line — otherwise, Jones, who is quite well thought of in Obama circles, would be history.

There’s been a little bit out there - some of the kooks on the left are making hay over the fact that Meg Whitman - of E-Bay and now running for the GOP gubernatorial nomination in California - said nice things about Van Jones (this may toastify Whitman’s GOP chances - she’s already got two strikes against her - RINOish proclivities and a friend of John McCain - as far as the GOP base goes, and this is not going to be helpful, even though she’s now denounced Jones’ views). This Washington Post story has the most detail seen in the MSM, but even it is clearly a cover-up job.

But other than a few peeps, its mostly been a conspiracy of silence on what would be with a responsible MSM a massive news story. That such a hater and fool could commend himself to the Democratic leadership just shows how far they’ve fallen - and real journalists would have this guy for lunch, plus everyone who advanced his career, into the bargain. But, we get next to nothing. Naturally - because the MSM is a mere adjunct of the DNC these days.

UPDATE: Kooks of a feather - Van Jones was one of Ariana Huffington’s political directors in her quixotic run for governor of California. I’m telling ya, people, Van Jones is no one-off screwball - he’s mainstream on the left. The sort of idiocy he parrots is believed, deeply, on the left.

Mark Noonan is a notorious GOP Hack and main contributor to: BLOGS FOR BUSH!
He is also a major hypocrite,

bitching about anti-smoking laws while supporting laws against sodomy and the use of illicit narcotics, that Noonan does in fact express a similar "hands-off" attitude toward homosexuality and drug use. Benson points to Noonan's comment elsewhere on the page that I linked above:

"If you are of the opinion that any conservative has a complaint about what homosexuals do in the privacy of their own homes, then you are astoundingly ignorant of conservatism.

As for me; I don't care what sexual activities consenting adults engage in provided I can't see it; I am in favor of complete drug legalization"

So do I owe Mark an apology?

I don't think so. How could anyone take a libertarian stand on these issues and still support the GOP with the enthusiasm that Noonan does?

This is an astounding hypocrisy. He says that as a conservative he has "no complaint" with the private activity of adults. But anti-gay sentiment is a mainstay of the Republican Party. Take a look at the language in the platforms of the national and state parties:

Texas:

The Party believes that the practice of sodomy tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans. Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable ‘alternative’ lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should ‘family’ be redefined to include homosexual ‘couples.’

California:

Recognizing the traditional model of monogamous heterosexual marriage as the only stable relationship upon which to build a society, we believe that homosexuality should not be presented as an acceptable ‘alternative’ lifestyle in public education and policy.

We support a landlord’s right to refuse leasing property to cohabiting homosexuals based on moral grounds.”

We oppose the teaching of homosexual behavior as a normal, acceptable or alternative lifestyle, and believe that sex education must emphasize traditional heterosexual lifestyles.

We oppose Governor Vilsack's scholarship program for self-declared homosexual students

Oregon:

We oppose the Children and Families Division practice of adoption and foster parenting by homosexuals as a moral transgression against the child.

We believe all forms of homosexuality and the so-called homosexual agenda are morally wrong and damaging to society in the long term.

From the national GOP platform:

We affirm traditional military culture, and we affirm that homosexuality is incompatible with military service.

Tell me again, Mark, how conservatism is unconcerned with what people do in private?

As for drug use, here's what pro-legalization-Mark's party has to say:

California:

Drug users must face stiffer penalties for contributing to the demand that makes the drug trade profitable. We support increased mandatory sentences for drug traffickers and dealers.

Texas:

We encourage the state and federal governments to prosecute illegal drug dealers and manufacturers to the fullest extent of the law and we call on Congress to use all means possible to discourage the foreign manufacture and export of such drugs into our country ... We oppose the movement toward the legalization of illicit drugs.

North Carolina:

We call for stiffer punishment for drivers who drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol. We oppose decriminalizing or legalizing drugs that are currently illegal. Drug users must face stiffer penalties for contributing to the supply of these poisonous products. We applaud new laws that have lengthened prison terms for persons convicted of selling illegal drugs.

And then the national platform:

We encourage the state and federal governments to prosecute illegal drug dealers and manufacturers to the fullest extent of the law and we call on Congress to use all means possible to discourage the foreign manufacture and export of such drugs into our country. Because of their higher proven rate of success, faith-based drug rehabilitation programs should be utilized in place of incarceration whenever possible. We oppose the movement toward the legalization of illicit drugs.

This is the party of pro-legalization, pro-sexual-freedom Mark Noonan?

Note that Mark Noonan is not just a blogger who happens to be conservative and thus happens to support the Republicans most of the time. GOP Bloggers describes itself as an

online grassroots community with the goal of keeping a Republican majority in Congress, and a Republican President in the White House ... Our plan is to get the GOP's message out and organize as many bloggers as we can to create the biggest internet grassroots community for a political party.

In other words, Noonan is not just an independent blogger expressing his thoughts. He is actively (and admittedly) involved in promoting the agenda of the GOP. So while he might say that he supports laissez-faire policies with regard to private activities, Mark's own behavior--i.e., aggressively advocating for the GOP's vision of America--would seem to indicate otherwise.

Actions speak louder than words, Noonan, you corrupt Republican party hack

More "liberal media bias" lies of Mark Noonan exposed.

A Google Search for "Van Jones resignation" + "New York Times" = approx. 9,110 hits.

A Google Search for ""van jones resignation" + "washington post" yields approx. 7,300 hits.

A Google Search for "van jones resignation" + "nbc nightly news" yields about 465 hits.

A Google Search for "van jones resignation" + "abc world news" yields about 400 hits.

A Google Search for "van jones resignation" + "cbs evening news" yields 408 hits.

Try it for yourself! Google doesn't lie. Yet Mark Noonan and Topper Lee, in all their infinite wisdom, actually would have you believe that none of the aforementioned media outlets have uttered even one word about this controversial resignation.

Wonder if Slymie shares the arch right wing neocon views of his nephew Topper?

Did you know that Scott McClellan, former press secretary to George W. Bush- admits in his book "What Went Wrong" that the Bush administration routinely gave "talking points" to news commentators to influence the agenda and frame arguments in terms favorable to the GOP. This goes way beyond a "Conservative Bias"- this is outrageous control and manipulation of a major media outlet. Fox News Network should be asshamed of themselves!!!! Yet still- all the neocons whine endlessly about "liberal bias" in the media. Give me a break!

Man, guess this really is a right wing hatesite after all!

Correction:

In Scott McClellan's book "What Went Wrong" , he readily admits that the Bush administration routinely gave "talking points" to news commentators [AT FOX NEWS NETWORK] to influence the agenda and frame...

Fox News Network is nothing more than a right wing propaganda machine.

Just your under average blogger said...

I was begining to think you had taken the weekend off in observance of labor day. Apparently not. Welcome back.

I love a good debate!! As a member of this blog team, I have to say there is no party out there who has yet to get anything right. As one who worked in State gov. for 2 terms, I can honestly say it made a good libertarian out of me. Each party plays the same exact game. I am extremely nervous about what is happening right now. None of this is good. I have been more of a republican than anything else but when it comes to social values or whatever you want to call it... you are barking up the wrong tree. The R's got it wrong.. the D's don't really mean what they say and the homosexuals are getting screwed every which way but Sunday. I want less government. Period. They can't run themselves out of a paper bag without spending a shitload of $$ for navigation and they still won't find the open end.

Joey-

Couldn't agree more!!! That's why I'm an independent- even though I look like a raging liberal on here-- but just doing that to point out the ridiculous foibles and seething partisanship of the out of power (for good reason) conservatives.

Happy Labor Day!

And not in that fun way!
