Back to Lakeside

Or what I used to call the Friday night therapy.

It used to be when you made the transition from the blacktop to dirt, you left the burdens of the past week at that small little crack that separates the two. I worried on the drive up, will that same calm peaceful feeling take over again when I make that transition?

Exiting the expressway I felt a twinge of apprehension, like I don't belong here anymore. You know like running into an old girlfriend or spouse after having moved on.

Yea, the drive in was as it always has been, peaceful and calm, I knew then that nothing had changed, and the reception given was as warm and friendly as it always had been. The typical Lakeside reception!

Then I remembered, I need to turn right instead of left!

Joey, you spent all of the summers of your life at Lakeside. You will always belong there. Everyone who has ever spent even part of their youth at Lakeside has a part of their mind that is always dreaming about the place, particularly whenever summers rolls by.

Don't let him win, or make you feel that you don't belong there. You belong where your heart is, and where your memories are. With the people you have grown up with.

Now your Uncle Slymie is the one who really doesn't belong, but he is not sensitive or conscious enough to realize this.

May we all belong where we love to be.

I'm in the UK and have never been to Michigan, USA. Stumbled across the blog because of a similar fight in my family over a summer home we've had for generations in the south of france. So intrigued I would like to inquire about how to rent in Lakeside. Is this possible?

Thanks for the comments. The post was written by my brother but speaks for all of us. What we were happy to find is that Lakeside is and always will be the same. It's where we grew up and where our hearts are. It was reassuring to find that the old smells, the old friends and the sweet smell of piney air are still the same.

Also, there are more and more cottages looking to rent. I'm sure over the next few years you'll see some changes that are just signs of the times. If you are interested in renting, we can get you all sorts of information. Come on over!!!
